Rap Radio, the halcyon days etcetera.
Stretch Armstrong blessed us with one of the finest moments in Rap broadcasting recently [a recording of P-Fine's 'Rap This' Radio Show from 28 April 87, with Schoolly D & Code Money in rather stunted and at times, oddly incendiary conversation] i thought i'd try something similar.....
I've included the P-Fine show for presentation reasons, do you see, i aint no biter... The 1st Mike Allen Show listed here appeared in a similar guise in the past, but this version excursion not only has a few doozy exclusives, but it has all the crap edited out, well, nearly all of it.
The discs [yes there are many] have all been edited down so you don't get too much of Mike's generic broadcasting rambles either [these ramblings offer some of the finest comedic moments btw].
There are chart rundowns, brief interviews with artists, some station ID's, some exclusives and of course, a bunch of hot music from back in the days, in the days of way back.
I gotta say, i love the old ads and some of them stay in, but not too many....
I know that the majority of the people that have inspired me to host a blog wont need the obligatory explanation of who P-Fine is, you wont need a lesson on, essentially, a Pop radio station's influence on the world of Rap here in London, and you certainly don't need a bemeaning tutorial on the all-star engineer Marley Marl. Oh yeah, i've upped a Marley show from May 1985 too........
